A network your AI agents can read, change and roll back

An AI agent that changes a network needs three things from each router: structured state it can read, an API for changes, and a way back to a previous configuration. OcNOS provides all three through open standards. IP Infusion develops OcNOS in-house, so our engineers can work with you on what your agent project needs next.

How an agent works with OcNOS

Observe

Subscribe to interface, routing and system state over gNMI, with on-change updates.

Decide

The agent compares live state with the intended state and proposes a change. Your team approves it.

Change

It applies the change with commit confirmed, over NETCONF using YANG models or through the transaction-based CLI.

Verify

It reads the result back and confirms the change before it moves on to the next router.

Roll back

If the result is wrong, the change is not confirmed and OcNOS reverts it. Commit rollback can also restore an earlier configuration.

What an AI agent needs from a router

Agents work best on networks that describe themselves in data models, accept changes through APIs and recover cleanly from a bad change. OcNOS supports each step with industry standards.

Read: streaming state

gNMI streaming telemetry with Get, Subscribe and on-change updates, using OpenConfig data models. The agent reads state through telemetry instead of parsing CLI output.

Not in every edition. On OcNOS-DC it is part of the PLUS edition. The Feature Matrix lists each edition.

Act: model-driven changes

NETCONF over SSH or TLS with YANG 1.0 and 1.1 models, NETCONF notifications and Call Home. The agent applies structured configuration, not free text.

On every qualified OcNOS router and switch. The Feature Matrix lists each edition.

Recover: a way back

Commit confirmed applies a change on trial and reverts it automatically unless the agent confirms it before the timer expires. Commit rollback restores an earlier configuration. Zero touch provisioning brings a new or replaced router online with less manual work.

Run the fleet

IP Maestro provides inventory, software upgrades, alarms and streaming telemetry across OcNOS fleets. Ansible supports repeatable tasks.

An engineering team that works with your project

IP Infusion has developed its network software in-house since 1999, from the ZebOS protocol stack to OcNOS today. The same engineering team works directly with operators and partners and shapes the OcNOS roadmap around their projects.

If your agents need a data model, telemetry path or API that OcNOS does not offer yet, tell us about it.

Frequently asked questions

What is AIOps for networking?
AIOps for networking uses AI, including machine learning and AI agents, to run network operations: read telemetry, find problems, decide on a change, apply it and check the result. Routers and switches need to expose structured state, an API for changes and a safe way back. OcNOS provides these through gNMI streaming telemetry, NETCONF with YANG models and commit confirmed with automatic revert, so AIOps tools and AI agents can work with open routers and switches.
Can AI agents manage OcNOS routers and switches?
Yes. OcNOS exposes NETCONF with YANG models for configuration on every qualified router and switch, and gNMI streaming telemetry with OpenConfig models in the editions that include it, such as OcNOS-DC PLUS. An agent can read state, apply a change and verify the result through these standard interfaces. The Feature Matrix lists support per edition and platform.
Which automation interfaces does OcNOS support?
NETCONF over SSH and TLS, YANG 1.0 and 1.1, OpenConfig, gNMI (Get, Subscribe, on-change, dial-in and dial-out), a transaction-based CLI with commit confirmed and commit rollback, zero touch provisioning and Ansible. The Feature Matrix lists each interface per edition and platform.
How does an agent undo a bad change on OcNOS?
With commit confirmed, over NETCONF or the CLI, OcNOS applies a change on trial and reverts it automatically unless it is confirmed before the timer expires. A change that cuts off the agent therefore undoes itself. Commit rollback restores an earlier configuration. Agents should read back the state after every change before confirming it.
Can IP Infusion build features for our AI agent project?
IP Infusion develops OcNOS in-house and shapes its roadmap with operators and partners. Tell us what your agents need, such as a data model, telemetry path or API, and our engineering team will discuss it with you.
Where can an AI agent read OcNOS facts?
The Feature Matrix and the Hardware Compatibility List are public, and the same data is published as JSON at /ai/ocnos-feature-matrix.json and /ai/ocnos-platforms.json, with a summary at /llms.txt.
