One NOS. One router.

One NOS. One router. Every SP role.

OcNOS-SP is the software, but IP Infusion ships the complete router. One vendor for the NOS, the qualified hardware, and the support contract, from the cell site to the IP core.

Buy the box, not a puzzle

The complete router, on one PO

Hardware, the OcNOS-SP license, and 24/7 TAC on a single PO and a single SLA. No separate procurement for the NOS and the bare-metal router, and no NOS-vs-hardware blame loop when a link goes down at 3 a.m.

One operating model

One NOS across every SP role

The same OcNOS image, CLI, and automation run the 5G cell-site router, the metro and aggregation nodes, the SR-MPLS core, and the IPoDWDM edge. One toolchain for the whole network, not a different OS per box.

No license tax

The full carrier-grade feature set is in the SKU

SR-MPLS, SRv6, MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet, IEEE 1588v2 timing, and 400G coherent optics come with the edition. No per-feature license tax on the capabilities a carrier network actually needs.

Ready to deploy

Pre-loaded and lab-validated as an OcNOS System

Want it racked and running? OcNOS-SP ships pre-loaded and validated on Edgecore and UfiSpace platforms, tested and shipped by IP Infusion as a complete OcNOS System.

OcNOS Systems
Why OcNOS-SP

Carrier-grade features. Open economics.

MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet

Carrier Ethernet Services on Open Hardware

MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet delivers the E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree, and E-Access service types carrier SLAs rely on. Y.1731 OAM, CFM, and hQoS included.

Fast Reroute

Sub-50ms TI-LFA Convergence

Topology-Independent Loop-Free Alternates pre-compute backup paths for all primary routes. Link or node failure triggers protection in under 50ms without waiting for IGP reconvergence.

Coherent Optics

400G ZR/ZR+ in a Single Chassis

OpenZR+ coherent optics in QSFP-DD eliminates dedicated transponder shelves. DCI and metro spans run on the same platform running IP routing.

5G Timing

IEEE 1588v2 & SyncE for xHaul

G.8275.1 full on-path timing and G.8275.2 partial timing profiles. SyncE frequency synchronization. Meets 3GPP and O-RAN timing requirements for fronthaul and midhaul.

Route Scale

Full Internet BGP Table

Peer with every Tier-1 transit provider simultaneously. RPKI origin validation, BGP-LS topology export to controllers, BMP for route monitoring. Tested at production Tier-1 scale.

One Accountable Vendor

Single Support Contract: Software + Hardware + RMA

One SLA across OcNOS-SP, the validated Edgecore or UfiSpace platform, and RMA logistics. No multi-vendor finger-pointing when a Tier-1 core router takes a hit at 3 a.m.

Architecture

One OcNOS router at every tier.

From internet peering and the SR-MPLS core to the 5G cell site and the IPoDWDM edge, every node is a complete OcNOS router. One NOS, one CLI, one vendor, from end to end.

OcNOS-SP network topology: internet peering through an SR-MPLS core to 5G backhaul and IPoDWDM metro
OcNOS-SP: internet peering, SR-MPLS core, 5G backhaul, and IPoDWDM metro on a single NOS.

How We Compare

Open routing on the merchant silicon you choose.

The same carrier-grade feature set as Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia, delivered on merchant silicon and open hardware. Decouple the NOS from the box to lower CapEx and OpEx, with one accountable vendor for all of it.

✕  Proprietary SP chassis (Cisco · Juniper · Nokia)
Proprietary ASICs: a hardware premium over open ODM platforms built on the same merchant silicon
Licensing and support renewals tied to a vendor-controlled hardware refresh cadence
Coherent optics, timing, and advanced routing often sold as separate feature licenses
Single-source lock-in for hardware refresh and roadmap
Vendor-specific management stacks: limited automation portability across platforms
✓  OcNOS-SP on open hardware
Merchant silicon at open-ODM hardware pricing, not a proprietary ASIC premium
One IP Infusion support contract covers software, hardware, and RMA
The full carrier-grade feature stack is in the SKU: no per-feature license tax
Multi-vendor hardware: Edgecore, UfiSpace, and HCL-qualified partners
Linux-based, open APIs: NETCONF/YANG, gNMI, RESTCONF, OpenConfig

Want the platform-by-platform detail? For a device-level map against specific gear, see OcNOS vs Cisco (Nexus, NCS, 8000) and OcNOS vs Juniper (MX, PTX, ACX, QFX), each with a CLI translation guide. OcNOS-SP is also a supported alternative to DIY SONiC, DANOS, VyOS, and FRR: a commercial carrier-grade NOS with 24/7 TAC and a single-vendor SLA, without the internal integration and third-party support those require.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is OcNOS-SP a router, or just a network operating system?
Both. OcNOS-SP is the carrier-grade network operating system, but IP Infusion ships the complete router: the NOS, the qualified merchant-silicon hardware from Edgecore or UfiSpace, and a single support contract, on one PO and one SLA. You can license the software to run on your own validated hardware, or buy the whole router pre-loaded and lab-validated as an OcNOS System. Either way there is one accountable vendor for software, hardware, and RMA, with no NOS-vs-hardware blame loop.
What is SR-MPLS and how does OcNOS-SP implement it?
Segment Routing (SR-MPLS, RFC 8402) embeds forwarding instructions directly into the packet label stack, eliminating the need for LDP and RSVP-TE. OcNOS-SP implements SR-MPLS with IS-IS/OSPF SR extensions, Flex-Algo (RFC 9350) for constraint-based path computation, and TI-LFA for sub-50ms loop-free fast reroute, providing simpler operations, faster convergence, and native traffic engineering.
Does OcNOS-SP support 400G ZR+ optics for IPoDWDM?
Yes. OcNOS-SP natively manages 400G coherent pluggable optics (OpenZR+ and OIF 400ZR) in QSFP-DD form factor, eliminating standalone transponder shelves. Modulation, FEC, pre-FEC BER, OSNR monitoring, and laser tuning are all configurable from the standard OcNOS CLI. OcNOS-SP has proven interoperability with coherent optics from multiple vendors.
Does OcNOS-SP support IEEE 1588v2 for 5G timing?
Yes. OcNOS-SP supports IEEE 1588v2 PTP with ITU-T G.8265.1, G.8275.1 (boundary clock), and G.8275.2 profiles combined with SyncE (G.811). On compact cell-site platforms like the UfiSpace S9501-28SMT, this delivers the sub-microsecond phase accuracy required for 5G NR fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul. OcNOS-SP is TIP DCSG compliant.
Which SKU matches my role: core router, cell-site gateway, or IPoDWDM edge?
SP-IP-BASE covers L2/L3 routing, EVPN-VXLAN, and streaming telemetry, typical for access and aggregation. SP-MPLS adds the full MPLS stack including SR-MPLS, SRv6, EVPN L2VPN/L3VPN, MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet: this is the core router baseline. CSR is the Cell Site Router tier: IEEE 1588v2 timing, SyncE, TIP DCSG compliance for 4G/5G xHaul. SP-PLUS unlocks 400G ZR/ZR+ coherent optics for IPoDWDM and DCI. See the OcNOS Feature Matrix for the full breakdown per platform.
Can I migrate an existing IOS-XR or Junos config to OcNOS-SP?
OcNOS-SP uses an industry-standard CLI designed to minimize retraining for engineers coming from IOS-XR, Junos, or Nokia SR OS. IP Infusion professional services provide config translation, design validation, and migration runbooks for Tier-1 and regional operators moving production traffic off proprietary chassis. Contact the IPI team via Contact to scope a migration for your topology.
What hardware platforms does OcNOS-SP run on?
OcNOS-SP runs on 40+ validated open hardware platforms from Edgecore, UfiSpace, and EPS Global, based on Broadcom Qumran and Jericho merchant silicon (Qumran UX, Q2U, Q2A, and Jericho 2C+). Platforms range from compact cell-site gateway form factors to 14.4T core routers with 400G ZR+ coherent optics. See the full Hardware Compatibility List, or read the per-chip silicon deep-dives for spec details and SP role recommendations.
Is OcNOS-SP a viable alternative to Cisco and Juniper?
Yes, OcNOS-SP is a carrier-grade alternative to Cisco IOS-XR and Juniper Junos, supporting SR-MPLS, BGP, MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet, and IEEE 1588v2 timing on your choice of open hardware. It is in production with 600+ operators in 60+ countries who replaced proprietary chassis to lower TCO and avoid vendor lock-in. See the OcNOS vs Juniper comparison or read the customer stories from operators who replaced their IOS-XR or Junos backbone.
What is the OcNOS-SP support model?
OcNOS-SP customers receive a single-vendor support contract from IP Infusion covering software, hardware (when sold as an OcNOS System), and RMA logistics. 24/7 TAC, hardware advance replacement, and a customer support portal are included. Migration consulting, design validation, and topology runbooks are available as professional services. See Support or OcNOS Systems for details.
