5G cell site routers with carrier timing built in

IP Infusion delivers the cell site router: OcNOS-SP preloaded on qualified routers, with IEEE 1588v2 PTP, SyncE and SR-MPLS for 4G and 5G backhaul, under one support contract.

Phase and frequency to every radio

The cell site router runs as a PTP boundary clock and a SyncE node, so phase, time and frequency reach the radio. The PTP telecom profile depends on the path: G.8275.1 when every hop is timing-aware, G.8275.2 when some hops are not.

G.8275.1 full timing. Every router on the path is a PTP-aware boundary clock, so phase, time and frequency are carried hop by hop. Choose it where you build the path new.

Illustrative. Clock class and holdover depend on the platform, software release and network design.

Questions about the cell site router and carrier timing.

A cell site router, also called a disaggregated cell site gateway (DCSG), sits at the tower and carries 4G and 5G traffic from the radio to the backhaul. IP Infusion delivers it with OcNOS-SP preloaded on qualified routers, with PTP, SyncE and SR-MPLS on the same box. OcNOS-SP is sold in editions, and the CSR edition is for cell site routing.
Use G.8275.1 full timing where every router on the path is a PTP-aware boundary clock: it runs over Ethernet with multicast and carries phase, time and frequency hop by hop. Use G.8275.2 partial timing across an installed path where some hops are not timing-aware: it runs over IP with unicast. OcNOS-SP supports both as a boundary clock on 23 OcNOS-SP platforms.
Yes, on selected platforms. The grandmaster default profile runs on 14 OcNOS-SP platforms, and the G.8275.1 and G.8275.2 grandmaster with antenna compensation on 11. Check each model in the OcNOS Feature Matrix.
PTP G.8275.1 and G.8275.2 boundary clock, SyncE and the transparent clock run on 23 of the 26 OcNOS-SP platforms, including every cell site and aggregation router on this page.
SR-MPLS with TI-LFA and Flex-Algo runs on all 26 OcNOS-SP platforms, including the cell site routers. OcNOS-SP has initial SRv6 support on selected aggregation routers, not on the cell site routers, with more SRv6 capability in development.
Zero-touch provisioning brings a new router online over IPv4 on every OcNOS-SP platform, and over IPv6 on selected platforms. NETCONF, OpenConfig and gNMI then manage it as code.
