The Challenge & the Outcome

Kentucky ISP Broadlinc selected IP Infusion's OcNOS SP on UfiSpace hardware, with RocNet as systems integrator, to power core routing for a 5G LTE fixed wireless rural broadband expansion.

Outcome: Broadlinc gained cost-effective, high-density routing for EPC environments with 5G LTE, connecting rural Kentucky communities with reliable, carrier-grade broadband.

Broadlinc, a Kentucky-based ISP serving rural communities, selected IP Infusion’s OcNOS Service Provider MPLS software running on UfiSpace hardware for a new fixed wireless deployment. Working with longtime partner RocNet, Broadlinc adopted a network disaggregation approach to deliver cost-effective, high-performance broadband to underserved areas as part of a grant-funded project.

The Challenge

Broadlinc needed a routing platform for its fixed wireless build-out that was more durable than the WISP-focused gear it had been using, yet less expensive than the systems typically sold to larger carriers. The team also wanted to optimize rack space in leased facilities and avoid hidden costs and complex feature add-ons.

The Solution

After a remote lab demonstration by RocNet, Broadlinc chose OcNOS SP on UfiSpace hardware. The deployment provides core routing for EPC environments with 5G LTE, connecting rural Kentucky communities with reliable broadband. Key factors in the decision included:

  • Rich feature set covering Service Provider MPLS routing for fixed wireless aggregation.
  • High port density on UfiSpace hardware to make the most of leased rack space.
  • Familiar CLI that mirrored Broadlinc’s experience with traditional vendors, minimizing training.
  • All-inclusive perpetual licensing paired with detailed product documentation, eliminating concerns about hidden costs.
  • RocNet support for training, initial configurations, and hands-on implementation, built on a partnership of more than 10 years.

Outcomes

Broadlinc deployed OcNOS and UfiSpace to power cost-effective, high-density routing for its fixed wireless expansion. “OcNOS and UfiSpace hardware provided the perfect balance of price, performance, and availability for our rural broadband expansion,” said TJ Scott, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager for Broadlinc. “RocNet’s expertise and hands-on support made the transition seamless, and the solution’s rich feature set ensures we can meet the needs of our communities.”

Why OcNOS

The disaggregated OcNOS plus UfiSpace combination gave Broadlinc carrier-grade routing at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems, while RocNet’s lab demo and ongoing support made adoption straightforward. The result extends broadband access to rural Kentucky and helps close the digital divide in communities Broadlinc serves.
