Three OcNOS routers and two customer sites. PE1 and PE2 share the VRF CUST over BGP; P1 only switches labels.

Tested with the OcNOS-SP VM 7.0.0: BGP L3VPN over IS-IS SR-MPLS between two PE routers and a P router.

The OcNOS-SP VM is a lab image for learning the CLI and control-plane configuration. Its data plane is limited, and it does not show hardware features, scale or performance.

What you build

  • IS-IS level 2 in the core, with a prefix SID on each loopback: the labels are 16001, 16002 and 16003.
  • A BGP L3VPN between PE1 and PE2, with one customer site behind each.
  • A P router with no customer routes, so the two sites reach each other only over labelled paths.

What is in the pack

  • A containerlab topology, sr-mpls.clab.yml, with three OcNOS nodes and two Linux hosts.
  • The OcNOS configuration for each router.
  • A check script, verify.sh, that pings between the two sites.
  • A README with the steps, the commands to look at and the expected results.

What you need

  • A Linux host with KVM, Docker and containerlab.
  • About 16 GB of free memory. Each OcNOS node uses 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of RAM.
  • The free OcNOS-SP VM image for KVM. The VM includes a 365-day license and is licensed for non-production evaluation only.

How it works

  1. Build the OcNOS container image from the VM image with vrnetlab.
  2. Start the lab with containerlab deploy -t sr-mpls.clab.yml.
  3. Paste each router's config and commit.
  4. Run verify.sh and look at the label tables on each router.

Lab pack: common questions

Can I test every OcNOS feature on the free VM?
No. The OcNOS-SP VM is a lab image for learning the CLI and control-plane configuration. Its data plane is limited, and it does not show hardware features, scale or performance. Feature support for production depends on the qualified platform and the OcNOS edition, as listed in the OcNOS Feature Matrix.
What exactly was tested?
BGP L3VPN over IS-IS SR-MPLS between two PE routers and a P router, on the OcNOS-SP VM 7.0.0 with containerlab. The two customer sites reached each other over labelled paths, and the P router carried no customer routes.
What do I need to run the lab?
A Linux host with KVM, Docker and containerlab, about 16 GB of free memory, and the free OcNOS-SP VM image for KVM. Each OcNOS node uses 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of RAM.
