The Challenge & the Outcome

VA Telecom deployed IP Infusion's OcNOS on UfiSpace hardware with Pine Networks to modernize its backbone across six data centers in Nantes, Paris, and Metz.

Outcome: VA Telecom replaced its legacy MikroTik CCR routers with OcNOS after evaluating Nokia and Juniper, gaining scalability, operational simplicity, and lower 10-year TCO.

VA Telecom, a French telecommunications operator serving business customers, modernized its backbone across six data centers in Nantes, Paris, and Metz by deploying IP Infusion’s OcNOS on UfiSpace hardware with systems integrator Pine Networks. The project replaced the operator’s entire MikroTik CCR routing estate and gave VA Telecom a scalable, cost-efficient platform for internet access, fixed and mobile telephony, MPLS VPN site interconnection, and BGP peering and transit.

The Challenge

Subscriber growth had outpaced VA Telecom’s legacy MikroTik CCR routers, and the operator needed a backbone that could run simultaneous BGP, MPLS, and VRF functions reliably while keeping cost of ownership predictable. VA Telecom evaluated competing solutions from Nokia and Juniper, weighing scalability, operational simplicity, long-term support, and total cost of ownership before making a decision.

The Solution

VA Telecom selected OcNOS and deployed it on UfiSpace platforms across two router roles:

  • MPLS Provider Edge routers running on UfiSpace S9510-28DC
  • BGP border routers running on UfiSpace S9600-72XC

The platform delivers SR-MPLS, EVPN, LDP, VPLS, L3VPN, full IPv4 and IPv6 BGP routing, double VLAN stacking, advanced QoS, and SNMP and streaming telemetry for network monitoring. Pine Networks led the phased migration, using standard BGP, OSPF, and MPLS protocols to keep interoperability with legacy systems intact as traffic moved over.

Outcomes

The open networking model gave VA Telecom hardware consolidation, stable concurrent operation of BGP, MPLS, and VRF functions, and a lower 10-year TCO thanks to perpetual licensing and long product lifecycles. The disaggregated hardware and software approach removes vendor lock-in and keeps future hardware options open. IP Infusion’s 24/7 global support combined with Pine Networks’ local expertise backs the deployment day to day.
