EXATEL, the second-largest optical fiber network operator in Poland, selected OcNOS as a pillar of its customized software-defined networking platform to deliver tailored services to public entities, large enterprises, and other telecommunications providers. The platform runs on Edgecore Networks and UfiSpace hardware and supports 100G and 400G links across the operator’s fiber footprint.
The Challenge
EXATEL’s long-term strategy is to build a sustainable competitive advantage in telecommunications and cybersecurity. To do that, the operator needed an open networking foundation that could deliver customized services for demanding corporate and public-sector customers, scale with future growth, and avoid lock-in to a single hardware vendor.
- Serve public entities, large enterprises, and telecom service providers with cutting-edge services
- Build an SDN platform flexible enough to package services per specific customer needs
- Reduce the risk of failures and the cost of repeated infrastructure upgrades
The Solution
EXATEL deployed OcNOS SP as part of its SDN platform, using L2/L3 switching and routing on a software infrastructure built with OcNOS alongside other in-house solutions. The operator runs DWDM and OTN networks across Central and Eastern Europe on its own fiber, with all OcNOS links running at 100G and 400G capacity. Support for Open ZR+ optics enables interoperability across networking equipment from multiple vendors.
- OcNOS SP on Edgecore Networks and UfiSpace white-box hardware
- 100G and 400G links across the SDN aggregation footprint
- Open ZR+ optics for multi-vendor interoperability
Outcomes
OcNOS gives EXATEL the modularity to create every service at the edge, shortening time to market and tightening security for end customers. The modular, scalable design accommodates future growth, reduces the risk of failures, and offers cost-effectiveness compared with traditional vendor solutions. Open ZR+ support promotes vendor diversity, prevents lock-in, and lets EXATEL get more from its existing fiber infrastructure without costly upgrades.
Why OcNOS
EXATEL chose IP Infusion based on its diverse and successful use cases, proven ability to scale, and customer service. As CTO Rafal Magrys put it: “We chose IP Infusion because of its diverse and highly successful use cases, proven ability to scale, and superb customer service: every service is created at the edge with OcNOS. This modularity improves service to reduce time to market and increase security for our customers.”
