Modernization Engine – bridging the gap between legacy infrastructure and an automated, cloud-native future

Strategic Evolution: OcNOS 7.0.0 Sets the Standard for Open Networking Transport

We are proud to announce OcNOS 7.0.0, a milestone release designed to accelerate the transition from legacy, hardware-bound networks to agile, software-defined architectures. This release provides the blueprints for the most critical Service Provider use cases of 2026.

  1. Advanced Transport & Migration Strategy

OcNOS 7.0.0 is built to handle the “Big Shift” from legacy OTN and LDP-based networks to high-performance Segment Routing.

  • BGP-Free Core: Optimize your backbone by removing BGP from core routers. OcNOS 7.0.0 leverages a clean MPLS/SR underlay to transport traffic between edge nodes, significantly reducing CPU load and complexity in the core.
  • Legacy OTN to Segment Routing (SR-TE): We’ve delivered a complete SR-TE implementation to help SPs modernize legacy OTN/DWDM circuits. By using Segment Routing Traffic Engineering, you can now emulate the deterministic paths of OTN while gaining the massive scalability of a packet-switched network.
  • Segment Routing with Flexible Algorithm (Flex-Algo): Move beyond shortest-path routing. Flex-Algo allows you to slice your physical network into multiple logical topologies—for example, one algorithm for low-latency 5G traffic and another for high-bandwidth bulk data.
  • EVPN Traffic Steering: For the first time, gain granular control over how EVPN services traverse your SR-TE paths. This ensures that high-value L2/L3 services are steered into the appropriate network slices automatically.
  1. Uncompromising Security & Peering

The edge is the front line of your network. OcNOS 7.0.0 introduces enterprise-grade protection for the peering point.

  • BGP Security for Peering: Beyond just RPKI, we have hardened the peering edge to prevent route leaks and prefix hijacking.
  • BGP RPKI Invalid Route Rejection: Protect your upstream and downstream by automatically dropping “Invalid” RPKI-signed routes, ensuring your routing table remains clean and trustworthy.
  1. Cloud-Native & Container Lifecycle

OcNOS is no longer just a router; it’s an application platform.

  • Container Lifecycle Management: OcNOS 7.0.0 now natively supports Docker and Kubernetes (K8s). This allows operators to run third-party monitoring tools, security probes, or even custom microservices directly on the router in an isolated container environment.
  • Compute-at-the-Edge: This feature is a game-changer for 5G MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing), allowing the router to serve as both a network node and a mini-compute host.
  1. The Automation Revolution: “On-Change” Visibility

Traditional polling is dead. OcNOS 7.0.0 moves to a Streaming Telemetry model.

  • Next-Gen Automation: Fully integrated support for NetConf and gNMI, allowing for “Infrastructure as Code” deployments.
  • 100+ Sensor Parameters: Based directly on Service Provider feedback, we have implemented over 100 new sensors.
  • “On-Change” Streaming: Stop waiting 5 minutes for a poll. With “On-Change” telemetry, the moment a link flaps, a queue fills, or an optic degrades, the OcNOS pushes that data to your collector.

Hardware Platforms:

  • Edgecore AS5916-54XL (QMX): Carrier-grade aggregation at scale. The new switch features 48x 1G/10G SFP+ and 6x 100G QSFP28 ports.
  • UfiSpace S9502-12SM (QUX): Precision edge routing for sites without timing requirements. It is a cost-efficient compact fanless platform that features 4x 1/10G SFP+ and 8x 100M/1G SFP ports.
  • UfiSpace S9321-64EO (TH5): Unleashing the power of Broadcom Tomahawk 5 for 800G data center and AI backbones. The switch features modern 64x 800G OSFP-DD data ports.

Summary

“OcNOS 7.0.0 isn’t just an OS update; it’s a migration platform. We are giving Service Providers the tools to replace legacy OTN with SR-TE, secure their peering with RPKI, and automate everything via gNMI. All while running third-party containers directly on the box.”
