Networking and Open Networking at Mobile World Congress 2023

Open networking is likely to be a relevant topic at Mobile World Congress 2023, as it has significant implications for the development and deployment of mobile networks.

Open networking enables network operators to take advantage of a wider range of hardware and software options, and to build more customized networks that meet their specific needs.

At Mobile World Congress 2023, we can expect to see a range of discussions and presentations related to open networking and its applications in the mobile industry. This may include topics such as:

  • The use of open networking standards to create more agile and adaptable mobile networks.
  • The potential benefits of open networking for improving network performance, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency.
  • The role of open networking in enabling new technologies and services, such as edge computing and 5G.
  • The challenges and opportunities of implementing open networking in mobile networks, including issues such as security, interoperability, and vendor lock-in.
  • The latest developments in open networking technology and standards, and how they are being applied in real-world use cases.

IP Infusion Will Be At Mobile World Congress 2023

Software for open networking continues to be a crucial component for increased rates of adoption in use cases. Capable carrier-grade networking software, combined with a number of high-quality hardware providers in the marketplace make for an effective and timely market solution for many networks looking for an alternative to proprietary system vendors.

We recently announced an OcNOS deployment representing the largest Open Optical Transport project in the world. Multinet, a Pakistan based service provider, will be deploying IP Infusion OcNOS to upgrade its network of more than 14,000 kilometers. This project is based on solutions developed by the industry group Telecom Infra Project (TIP).

Networking and Open Networking

Multinet’s expansive upgrade incorporates Cassini, TIP’s disaggregated coherent switch and open packet transponder built by Edgecore Networks, and IP Infusion’s OcNOS, the industry’s first full-featured network OS for white box disaggregated network solutions that provides the scalable transition from traditional networks to open networks. Greatly expanding capacity, this long-haul network infrastructure deployment upgrades the network to 3.2 Tbps capacity using TIP Open Optical solutions which have been designed to provide better connectivity around the world.

Multinet’s long-haul network infrastructure deployment includes additional TIP Open Optical ecosystem partners SmartOptics along with local System Integrator partner in Pakistan, STARCOM Technologies (Pvt) Limited.

IP Infusion will be present at #MWC23 in a couple of different capacities. We will be accepting briefings in our Meeting Room to discuss the latest news and announcements from IP Infusion. In addition, we will be participating in the Telecom Infra Project Pavilion throughout the show. I am personally excited about the marketing panel on Day 3 of the show, where I will be discussing TIP Marketing Innovation with representatives from Dell and NTT Data and hosted by TIP Chief Marketing Officer Eugina Jordan.
