IP Infusion Unveils Open Aggregation Router For Service Provider Migration To 400G Networks

Recently, IP Infusion, a trailblazer in the disaggregated networking community, announced that its Open Compute Network Operating System (OcNOS) version 6.3 software that is planned to be released by end of May 2023 would support UfiSpace’s S9600-56DX Platform to help service providers aggregate high throughput and transport services for their networks. The new platform offers highly scaled port density including 8 x 400G QSFP-DD interfaces and 48 x 100G QSFP28 interfaces.

We have been turning up 100Gs like it was 56k modems in 1997” says Graham Paul Wooden, Core/Backbone Engineering Director at Uniti Fiber.

With the UfiSpace S9600-56DX, IP Infusion delivers a highly scalable and advanced aggregation router for OcNOS customers. It does all this with only 1/6th of the power draw of legacy chassis systems.

OcNOS Aggregation Router Use Cases

Running OcNOS  (OcNOS-AGGR),the S9600-56DX platform supports a variety of use cases. Let us go over them.

Broadband Aggregation Solution Use Cases

  • Fixed wireless aggregation
  • Mobile network aggregation
  • Ethernet and cable internet aggregation
  • Passive optical network aggregation

Edge Routing Solution Use Cases

  • Provider network
  • Routed optical network

The addition of OpenZR+ to the OcNOS AGGR and S9600-56DX bundle also makes it an ideal solution for metro aggregation.

OcNOS-AGGR Software Highlights

Here are the highlights of the OcNOS AGGR routing solution.

OcNOS AGGR supports such services as:

  • Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN)
  • Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN)
  • Virtual Private Wire Service (VPWS)
  • Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS)
  • Ethernet VPN (EVPN)

Transport

The OcNOS AGGR supports:

  • Segment routing
  • Segment routing over IPv6 (SRv6)
  • Virtual Extensible LAN (VxLAN)
  • Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
  • Label distribution protocol (LDP)
  • RSVP-TE
  • 1q/ad

OAM

To promote uptime and enhanced network performance, OcNOS AGGR also supports OAM functions, such as:

  • Bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD)
  • Two-way active measurement protocol (TWAMP)
  • ITU-T Y.1731

Resiliency

The OcNOS AGGR solution is exceptionally resilient, thanks to features such as:

  • Remote loop-free alternate (rLFA)
  • Topology-independent loop-free alternate (TI-LFA)
  • IP fast reroute (FRR)
  • Ethernet protection switching (G.8031)
  • Ethernet ring protection switching (G.8032)

OcNOS-AGGR on S9600-56DX

This solution offers high-density 400G interfaces with 4.8Tbps switching capacity, Class-C timing accuracy, and TSN. The platform specializes in 5G time-critical applications and can function as either a Boundary Clock (T-BC) or Edge Grand Master (T-GM). It is based on the Broadcom Qumran-2C chipset. The architecture included dual stacked Qumran-2C chipset to maximize throughput and increase switching capacity.

The open aggregation router is compatible with high-accuracy synchronization solutions and meets stringent timing requirements to ensure the error-free operation of 5G processes. Additionally, support is present for OpenZR/ZR+ optics for Metro and longhaul use-cases .

Let’s go over some of the most notable features and highlights of this offering from IP Infusion.

1. High Bandwidth

The platform has 8x400G and 48x100G ports with dual Broadcom Qumran-2C chipset enabling a 4.8 Tbps switching capacity per router. This enables network operators to migrate their networks to aggregate NextGen services. The router also expands network capacity and provides excellent stability for future-proof networks.

2. IP/Optical and Network Convergence

The S9600-56DX platform supports 400ZR+ coherent optical transceivers, which are only a few inches long. These modules can replace bulky, inefficient transponder systems to support network convergence.

The benefits associated with using 400ZR+ pluggable modules include the following:

  • Reducing complexity of longhaul network infrastructure
  • Streamlining traffic flow to a single aggregation network
  • Reducing the amount of space, power, and equipment needed for DWDM systems
  • Decreasing the number of network elements needed
  • Enabling network managers to leverage L3 protocols

The capabilities of the S9600-56DX platform have been further magnified thanks to the support of the OcNOS 6.3 software. Together, these dynamic disaggregated networking solutions provide clients with exceptional scalability and promote network efficiency.

3. Cooling

The solution  boasts multiple standout cooling features, including:

  • 3+1 fans
  • Hot-swappable capabilities to reduce downtime
  • Front-to-back airflow to maximize cooling
  • Automated fan speed controls to reduce power consumption

Cumulatively, these cooling attributes reduce maintenance downtime and promote platform longevity.
