IP Infusion enables SKY Brasil to deploy industry’s first 5G-ready disaggregated backhaul packet transport solutions

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 13, 2019IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for telecom and data communications services, announced that SKY Brasil, a “Direct to Home” digital satellite service operator in Brazil, has selected IP Infusion’s OcNOS™ network operating system in their 5G-ready fixed LTE services disaggregated mobile backhaul transport solutions, a first for Latin America.

Sky Brasil, the largest satellite TV operator in Brazil which serves more than 5 million subscribers in the country and provides fixed wireless LTE services to more than 314,000 households in the region. The service requires support for multi-service transport, advance quality of service with improved latency and zero packet lost. To address these challenges and reduce overall TCO of backhaul infrastructures, SKY Brasil selected IP Infusion’s OcNOS network operating system to deploy its fixed LTE wireless services and to benefit from the economies of disaggregated open network technology.

OcNOS is the industry’s first full-featured modular extensible network OS for white box open networking solutions offering advanced capabilities that include extensive switching and routing support ranging from Layer2, Layer3 to MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) and APIs/protocols for SDN (Software Defined Networking).OcNOS features hybrid, centralized or distributed network support; scalable, modular high-performance network; and a robust data plane built on merchant silicon.

“We adopted the IP Infusion disaggregated solution for our 5G mobile backhaul transport network because OcNOS has the advanced MPLS and segment routing technologies required to build a robust network,” said Luis Otavio Marchezetti, engineering vice president at SKY Brasil. “With this OcNOS solution, we will continue to maintain SKY’s position as the region’s leader in technological innovation and service. By offering fast, high-quality broadband service at an affordable price, we will be opening up new growth opportunities in Brazil and throughout the region.”

“As consumer demands for bandwidth and multi-service traffic grow, service providers need to quickly develop new use cases, launch and monetize them to attract consumers by delivering an experience which is unprecedented. Disaggregated networks offer best choices with state-of-the-art technologies and lower-cost-per-bit allowing operators economies at scale for improved service offerings,” said Atsushi Ogata, CEO and president of IP Infusion. “Along with our solutions partners, IP Infusion offers unparalleled open edge solution for backhaul, creating great potentials of multi-service transport and pathway to 5G.”
