Die Herausforderung und das Ergebnis

Telcom selected IP Infusion OcNOS SP on Edgecore and UfiSpace white boxes for Aggregation and Cell Site Router roles, interoperating with Cisco, Nokia and Juniper across its UK full-fibre rollout.

Ergebnis: Disaggregation gives Telcom an incremental upgrade path, rapid ROI through multi-vendor hardware, and 10Gbps business connectivity with 99.99% uptime across key UK cities.

Telcom, a UK-based internet services provider, selected IP Infusion OcNOS to disaggregate its network and accelerate a national full-fibre rollout into Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham. The deployment pairs OcNOS SP with white-box hardware from Edgecore and UfiSpace, interoperating with Telcom's existing Cisco, Nokia and Juniper equipment across Aggregation Router and Cell Site Router use cases.

The Challenge

Telcom is investing millions to build a new hyperfast, full-fibre network across key UK regions, with the goal of delivering the country's fastest and most robust Internet connectivity to local businesses, government, health and education sectors. To reach that scale quickly, Telcom needed an upgrade path that did not require ripping out the Cisco, Nokia and Juniper equipment already in place, and that gave the team room to add modern features at the network edge.

The Solution

Telcom chose an open networking strategy built on IP Infusion OcNOS running on Edgecore and UfiSpace white-box hardware. The disaggregated design covers both Aggregation Router and Cell Site Router roles, and it interoperates with the operator's incumbent vendors so new sites and capacity can be added incrementally. IP Infusion partner and integrator Nomios supported the deployment, providing pre-sales and sales support, technical consultation, and strategic planning for future network expansions.

  • OcNOS SP deployed for Aggregation Router and Cell Site Router use cases
  • White-box hardware sourced from Edgecore and UfiSpace
  • Interoperates with existing Cisco, Nokia and Juniper equipment
  • Nomios led logistics, technical consultation, and expansion planning

Ergebnisse

The Telcom network delivers hyperfast speeds of up to 10Gbps for each individual business over a dedicated leased line, with 99.99% uptime guaranteed through its real-time monitoring system. The disaggregation strategy gives Telcom an incremental upgrade path to modern networking features and a rapid return on investment by supporting a plurality of hardware vendors as the rollout scales across UK cities.

  • Hyperfast speeds up to 10Gbps per business on dedicated leased-line
  • 99.99% uptime backed by real-time monitoring
  • National rollout underway in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham
  • Incremental upgrade path that protects investment in incumbent vendors

Why OcNOS

"Utilizing IP Infusion OcNOS has enabled us to push a rich and diverse feature set out to the edge of the network, giving us greater flexibility and variety of services available to our customers," said Ben White, Principal Network Architect for Telcom. White added that Telcom gains the same features and functionality as organizations using traditional vendors, but with more diversity on equipment choice, a more nimble vendor able to react to market trends, and a better price point.
