La sfida e il risultato

Madeo Consultant, a France-based data center systems integrator, replaced Cisco Nexus and Catalyst switches with IP Infusion OcNOS on Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware to power its cloud SaaS business.

Madeo Consultant, a software provider and data center systems integrator based in France, replaced its Cisco Nexus 3048 and Catalyst 3750 switches with IP Infusion OcNOS running on Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware. The transition supports Madeo's cloud networking software as a service business and gives the team EVPN VxLAN, public BGP, and Data Center Interconnect on a disaggregated stack.

The Challenge

Madeo Consultant delivers cloud networking software as a service to its client base, and rising demand called for a refresh of the underlying switching estate. The team evaluated several network disaggregation strategies, including SONiC and open networking hardware, alongside continuing with Cisco. Two requirements stood out:

  • Comprehensive BGP support for a public BGP router role with transit partners.
  • EVPN VxLAN features to enable a modern Data Center Interconnect use case.

SONiC did not provide the BGP features Madeo needed, and the team wanted a more mature market option than a pure community build.

The Solution

Madeo selected OcNOS as an alternative to both Cisco and SONiC. The deployment uses OcNOS DC and OcNOS SP packages, with the Service Provider package supplying the standard BGP features critical to the transit-router role. OcNOS runs on Edgecore and UfiSpace white-box hardware, replacing the incumbent Cisco Nexus 3048 and Catalyst 3750 switches.

  • Core network switching and public BGP routing on OcNOS.
  • Data Center Interconnect built on EVPN VxLAN.
  • Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware sourced independently of the NOS vendor.
  • Industry-familiar command line interface for an easy operator transition.

Risultati

OcNOS gave Madeo the EVPN VxLAN capability and optics flexibility it needed for higher performance, while keeping operational habits intact through a familiar CLI. Simple product licensing from IP Infusion kept the upgrade experience straightforward, and decoupling software from hardware let Madeo shop for a custom-fit platform at an off-the-rack cost.

"We are now delivering software as a service more efficiently, thanks to the increased performance and future-proofing achieved with IP Infusion's solution." : François Defrocourt, Solutions Engineer, Madeo Consultant.

Why OcNOS

For Madeo, OcNOS combined a mature feature set with the freedom of open networking. The OcNOS SP and OcNOS DC packages covered both the data center fabric and the public BGP transit role in a single software family, and the choice of Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware removed single-vendor lock-in from the upgrade path.
