La sfida e il risultato

Inspire Net deployed OcNOS on UfiSpace open hardware with Independent Data Solutions to modernize its rural New Zealand network, gaining MPLS-powered managed services and power-efficient edge connectivity.

Risultato: Lower capital and operational costs, scalable architecture for distributed rural sites, and power-efficient edge hardware suited to off-grid and solar-powered deployments.

Inspire Net, a New Zealand Internet Service Provider that largely serves rural and underserved communities, deployed IP Infusion's OcNOS network operating system on UfiSpace open hardware to modernize its network infrastructure. System integrator Independent Data Solutions (IDS) led the deployment. The result: enhanced scalability, streamlined operations, and a lower total cost of ownership across distributed rural sites.

The Challenge

Inspire Net faced growing demand for high-speed, reliable connectivity from customers across rural and remote parts of New Zealand. Legacy systems could not keep pace, and the operator needed gear suited to off-grid and solar-powered sites without sacrificing service breadth or long-term scalability.

Key decision requirements included:

 • Low power consumption for off-grid and solar-powered deployments.
 • Strong MPLS capabilities to enable managed services and traffic engineering.
 • Scalable architecture supporting long-term growth across distributed sites without costly redesigns.
 • Excellent cost-performance to reduce both capital and operational expenditures.
 • Resilient hardware design built for the environmental demands of rural deployments.

The Solution

Working with IDS, Inspire Net selected a disaggregated solution that combines IP Infusion's OcNOS networking software with UfiSpace open networking hardware, including the UfiSpace S9501-28SMT at the high-speed edge of its rural fibre and wireless networks. OcNOS provides advanced routing, switching, and automation, and integrates with UfiSpace's power-efficient platforms.

"After testing numerous mainstream switching vendors, it was IP Infusion's OcNOS with the UfiSpace S9501-28SMT that finally met all our requirements for our high speed edge of our rural fibre and wireless networks," said James Watts of Inspire Net. "The solution's power efficiency, robust feature set, and value for money have allowed us to meet the demands of our rural customer base without compromise."

Outcomes

The OcNOS deployment let Inspire Net replace legacy systems, improve network performance, and gain operational agility while lowering TCO. The disaggregated architecture positions the ISP to expand efficiently as rural demand grows.

 • Enhanced scalability across distributed rural sites.
 • Streamlined operations and greater flexibility.
 • Reduced capital and operational costs.
 • Power-efficient edge suitable for off-grid and solar-powered locations.
 • Stronger MPLS-based managed services and traffic engineering.

Why OcNOS

OcNOS delivered the MPLS feature depth, scalability, and cost-performance Inspire Net needed, and paired cleanly with UfiSpace hardware for low-power rural sites. With IDS leading integration, the partnership shows how disaggregated networking can serve ISPs working across challenging geographies.
