Race Communications selected OcNOS SP to migrate from a Layer 2 ring-based network to an open IP/MPLS aggregation architecture that interoperates with existing infrastructure across its California fiber footprint.

结果: Race runs over 2.6 million feet of fiber, launched California's first residential 10G service in 2023, and is scaling toward 350,000 connected homes and businesses by 2030.

Race Communications selected IP Infusion's OcNOS SP to migrate from a legacy Layer 2 ring-based network to a new IP/MPLS architecture. The open networking platform interoperates with Race's existing infrastructure, supporting the California fiber provider as it scales toward connecting more than 350,000 homes and businesses by 2030.

The Challenge

Race Communications needed to evolve beyond an existing L2 ring-based design to a flexible IP/MPLS network capable of supporting residential and business fiber growth across California. In 2023, Race introduced California's first residential 10G fiber internet service, and the operator now runs over 2.6 million feet of fiber optic line. The new network had to interoperate cleanly with what was already deployed, while preserving interoperability with the existing network.

The Solution

Race deployed OcNOS SP as the aggregation platform for the new IP/MPLS build. OcNOS gave the team an open networking option with robust implementations of the protocols they were already running, paired with hardware choice and predictable lead times.

成效

  • Smooth interoperability between the legacy L2 ring network and the new IP/MPLS aggregation layer
  • Open networking economics with strong protocol support, professional services, and equipment pricing
  • A platform sized for Race's 2030 goal of 350,000+ homes and businesses connected

Why IP Infusion

"IP Infusion was the natural choice, given the flexibility of hardware availability, but far more importantly, due to the robust implementation of the protocols Race already had implemented," said Carlos Alcantar, CTO for Race Communications. "Even with an open networking solution, we received solid protocol implementations, good lead times and support, amazing professional services and good equipment pricing."
