The Challenge
Internet connectivity for a hospital cannot fail. NWPS, a Swiss network engineering firm, had to remove single-ISP dependency for a Swiss critical-healthcare customer and stand up dual-stack BGP multihoming on a greenfield build, with no incumbent design to fall back on. The platform had to carry the full IPv4 and IPv6 global routing table in hardware, match the feature depth of traditional vendors, meet carrier-grade resilience expectations, and fit a budget that made the business case work.
The Solution
NWPS selected OcNOS SP IP-BASE running on UfiSpace S9600-72XC routers with OP2 external TCAM at the core and aggregation layer. The design carries more than 1.27 million routes in hardware and supports dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6 from day one.
- OcNOS SP IP-BASE on UfiSpace S9600-72XC with OP2 external TCAM
- Dual-stack BGP multihoming for ISP-independent connectivity
- Core and aggregation roles on a single open networking stack
성과
- Ten months, no recorded outage. The network has run in production for ten months without one, and the hospital's link to the internet no longer rests on a single provider staying up.
- 1.27M+ routes held in hardware. OP2 external TCAM carries the whole table, so forwarding stays in silicon as the global table keeps growing.
- About 60% less capital cost. Measured against a comparable proprietary offer, that gap is what made the business case work for the customer.
- No recurring software fees. Operating cost is predictable from year to year, and no licence renewal stands between the network and a feature it already runs.
Why OcNOS
"When you are building internet infrastructure for a hospital, failure is simply not an option. OcNOS gave us the carrier-grade feature set and hardware performance to deliver exactly that, at a price point that made the business case undeniable. This is what open networking looks like when it is done right," said Lino Moragon, Co-CEO, NWPS.
"From a technical standpoint, OcNOS checked every box: full BGP table in hardware, dual-stack from day one, and a feature set that holds up against the traditional vendors. What we did not expect was how smooth the after-sales experience would be," said Markus Wellauer, Co-CEO, NWPS.
