Dojo Networks Replaces Cisco With IP Infusion

The Challenge

DojoNetworks is a rapidly growing Internet Service Provider for multi-dwelling units (MDUs): apartments and multi-tenant housing, including student housing, senior housing, condominiums, and HOAs. The company has grown more than 40% per year for five consecutive years and now serves hundreds of properties nationwide. Increasing demand for services, plus the need to add new features, created pressure to upgrade in a way that was sensible, capability rich, and timely to deploy.

Dojo had been running Cisco transport network devices between sites. Traditional vendor options were costly, and lead times on chassis hardware stretched into years.

The Solution

Dojo chose an open networking strategy: IP Infusion OcNOS Aggregation Router software deployed onto Edgecore Networks open hardware, designed in partnership with IP ArchiTechs and supplied through EPS Global. OcNOS now carries the transport layer in Dojo’s metro distribution networks and runs beside the Cisco, Juniper, and Ruckus gear already in the field, so the operator upgrades property by property instead of all at once.

  • Product: IP Infusion OcNOS Aggregation Router software
  • Hardware: Edgecore Networks switches with 10G and 100G ports
  • Design partner: IP ArchiTechs
  • Distributor: EPS Global

Outcomes

Working with IP Infusion and EPS Global, Dojo saw results as soon as the first sites came up:

  • Significant savings on upfront equipment spend, measured against the traditional vendor options Dojo had priced.
  • Lead times for new hardware fell from years to days, which matches the pace of a company adding properties every quarter.
  • IP Infusion support engineers and developers resolved issues quickly during the rollout.
  • Existing Cisco, Juniper, and Ruckus devices keep running beside OcNOS, so earlier investment stays in service instead of being written off.

Why OcNOS

“IP Infusion offers a broad set of features and support for very diverse hardware, which are two key aspects in ensuring a practical networking platform,” said Michael Caldwell, CTO of DojoNetworks. “Additionally, we wanted a networking partner that would be nimble and receptive to our needs, and the support we got throughout the process really cemented the choice as being the correct one.”

Dojo Network Engineer Idriss Nokour described OcNOS as “remarkably user-friendly and deeply capable in a complex service provider environment. IP Infusion’s engineering and support teams consistently demonstrate their knowledge and dedication in our interactions with them.”

BroadStar Selects IP Infusion’s OcNOS® Disaggregated Solution to Replace Traditional Hardware Switches for MDU Residential Access Applications

BroadStar, a Florida-based television, Internet, and VOIP provider with 25 years of experience, replaced its traditional Juniper switches with IP Infusion’s OcNOS software running on white box switches. The disaggregated approach lets BroadStar deliver symmetric broadband services with up to 10G capacity to the Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs) it serves across the United States, while reducing capital and operating expenditures.

The Challenge

BroadStar is a specialized boutique communications company serving REITs, property management companies, HOA boards, hospitality managers, and institutional customers. To roll out a feature-rich mix of modern broadband services to its MDU footprint, BroadStar needed to move beyond traditional integration pain points and a fixed hardware path that constrained both budget and time-to-market.

The Solution

BroadStar selected IP Infusion bundles that integrate pre-loaded OcNOS with open networking hardware platforms. OcNOS interoperates with other vendors, so BroadStar can pair the network operating system with auxiliary hardware that fits its budget and feature requirements. The result is a faster roll-out of services and tight integration on best-of-breed hardware suited to performance-critical deployments.

  • OcNOS SP deployed on white box switches in place of legacy Juniper hardware
  • Aggregation of customer traffic back to BroadStar’s core network
  • Symmetric broadband services over fiber to residential customers in MDUs

Outcomes

BroadStar is upgrading its network to deliver symmetric services with up to 10G capacity and greater operational efficiency. The disaggregated model lowers installation and upkeep costs and makes facility-wide systems upgrades faster and easier, supporting BroadStar’s goal of quality fiber broadband for MDU residents without exorbitant expense.

  • Reduced overall capital and operating expenditures
  • Dramatically reduced operational complexity
  • Shorter time-to-market for new broadband services

Why OcNOS

“IP Infusion’s tight integration capabilities on best-of-breed hardware is the ideal design for performance-critical deployments, providing the full feature set and reliability we want to offer our residential customers as we roll out symmetric broadband services over fiber,” said Tyler Bell, CEO of BroadStar. “Aggregating all of our customer traffic back to our core network using IP Infusion’s platform provides a clear ROI in just a few months rather than the years it would take if we used other solutions.”

Amplex Internet Selects IP Infusion OcNOS® to Upgrade Network

The Challenge

Amplex Internet serves thousands of households across Ohio as both a wireless and a fiber operator, and its footprint takes in a multitude of remote sites. That topology puts equipment cost at the center of every design decision. The team wanted a lower-cost alternative to its incumbent carrier-class vendor with no loss of performance or reliability, plus modern carrier features such as SR-MPLS that had historically shipped only on higher-end routing platforms.

A traditional forklift upgrade was off the table. As Mark Radabaugh, President of Amplex, put it: “Completing a ‘forklift upgrade’ of the network is a long, expensive, and complex process. IP Infusion, UfiSpace, and Edgecore provide a path to a 100GB core and distribution network.”

The Solution

Amplex chose the OcNOS SP Aggregation Router with MPLS to upgrade and future-proof its carrier-class network, and runs it on Edgecore Networks and UfiSpace white-box hardware. Network consultancy IP ArchiTechs built the open networking design template, working alongside distribution partner EPS Global. In production, OcNOS bridges the Amplex customer edge and the netElastic virtual Broadband Network Gateways, and it speaks to the installed Juniper and Ciena gear, so sites convert one at a time.

  • OcNOS SP Aggregation Router with MPLS on Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware
  • SR-MPLS for modern carrier-class services
  • TI-LFA Fast Reroute enabled on multi-link sites for sub 50-millisecond failover
  • Interoperability with existing Juniper and Ciena equipment

Outcomes

Hardware is now a choice rather than a constraint. Amplex can qualify aggregation platforms from more than one supplier at the performance and reliability it had before, which keeps a single vendor’s backlog off the critical path and limits what a costly supply chain disruption can do to a build schedule.

TI-LFA Fast Reroute is active on every multi-link site, so a fiber cut or a failed port reroutes in under 50 milliseconds. Voice and video sessions ride through the event and customers never file a ticket. SR-MPLS moves from wish list to running configuration as well, which hands the team traffic engineering and service separation it could not previously justify buying.

Why OcNOS

OcNOS delivered the carrier-class feature set Amplex was shopping for at a price a growing regional ISP can defend, and the open networking model kept both Edgecore and UfiSpace in play. What Amplex gets is a staged, logical climb to 100GB that leaves the business free of any one vendor’s roadmap.

Africell Sierra Leone Rolls Out High-Capacity Disaggregated IP/MPLS Backbone To Deliver Mobile And Fixed Services

Africell Sierra Leone, the country’s mobile communications and technology operator, rolled out a high-capacity disaggregated IP/MPLS backbone to backhaul both mobile and fixed traffic. The operator selected IP Infusion OcNOS running on Edgecore hardware, with systems integrator Pine Networks delivering the turn-key project from design and proof of concept through integration and traffic migration.

The Challenge

Africell offers mobile coverage across Sierra Leone and high-capacity FTTx to businesses and residential customers in Freetown. A surge in traffic from extensive 4G coverage, combined with preparation for 5G, made it crucial to deploy a robust and scalable IP backbone capable of carrying mobile and fixed services on the same infrastructure.

  • Backhaul rising 4G traffic and prepare for 5G introduction.
  • Serve both mobile customers nationwide and FTTx subscribers in Freetown.
  • Avoid the cost and rigidity of traditional integrated routing platforms.

The Solution

Africell made the strategic decision to build its new backbone on disaggregated routing, pairing OcNOS SP with Edgecore switches. Pine Networks handled network design, proof of concept, integration, and live traffic migration as a single turn-key engagement, covering access and aggregation roles in the network.

“We made the decision to use a disaggregated routing solution because it covered all of our requirements and provided the flexibility we need at a lower point than traditional solutions,” said Ali Abou Hamdan, Head of Transmission and IP at Africell Sierra Leone.

Outcomes

The disaggregated model gives Africell a scalable IP backbone that supports current 4G demand, FTTx growth in Freetown, and the path to 5G, without locking the operator into a single vendor stack. Upgradability and cost were the driving factors, and the disaggregated approach allows incremental upgrades as needs evolve.

  • Single backbone scaled to service mobile and fixed network traffic.
  • Flexibility to introduce more advanced services on the same platform.
  • Lower price point than traditional integrated routing solutions.

Why OcNOS

“The IP Infusion OcNOS was the right choice for Africell, because it provides the required features for current and future requirements as Africell introduces more advanced services,” said Hadi Choueiry, General Manager of Pine Networks. The deployment extends IP Infusion’s footprint in Africa and shows how open, disaggregated networking can meet carrier-grade requirements in an important market.
