Adams Cable Service Upgrades To 400G Network With IP Infusion and RocNet

The Challenge

Adams Cable Service, a Pennsylvania-based network services company, needed more capacity than its network could carry. Before selecting OcNOS, Adams evaluated numerous traditional vendors and ran into recurring obstacles that delayed projects and inflated cost.

  • Excessive lead times on hardware and optics
  • Inflated equipment costs
  • Convoluted licensing models

Adams needed a path to higher capacity that did not lock the company into a single vendor or pricing structure.

The Solution

Adams Cable deployed OcNOS Access and Aggregation Routing Software, running it on UfiSpace open networking hardware paired with 400G ZR+ optics from Precision OT. OcNOS Management Switch software runs across a combination of UfiSpace and Celestica platforms. RocNet Supply brought software, hardware, and optics together as a single integrated package and supports the result across its full lifecycle.

RocNet enabled Adams to run exhaustive testing against validated designs in its own test lab, providing proof of concept and accelerating the project by nearly eight months from the original timeline.

Outcomes

Adams now runs at 400G and beyond with headroom left for the next round of growth, and the eight months cut from the schedule put that capacity in service far ahead of the original plan. Proven software on open hardware also shortens the wait for new equipment, because Adams is no longer bound to one vendor’s lead times or licensing model.

  • 400G and beyond in production, with headroom for future scale
  • Schedule compressed by nearly eight months against the initial plan
  • New equipment provisioned faster on proven software and open hardware
  • Lower total cost, and the savings reach the end users Adams serves

“Open networking offers numerous significant benefits to our network, including improved time to market and lower costs,” said Wendy Hartman, General Manager of Adams Cable Service. “By enhancing capacity cost-effectively, we can pass along those savings and benefits to our end users, continuing to drive value as a network provider.”

Why OcNOS

Adams Cable selected IP Infusion based on competitive pricing and a track record of delivering networking stacks to large OEM vendors worldwide. The combination of proven software on open networking hardware supports rapid provisioning and positions the Adams network for ongoing capacity growth.

Prosoluce Chooses Open Networking For Core Network Upgrade

Prosoluce, a regional internet, cloud, and managed services provider in France, upgraded its core backbone from 10G to a 100G open networking platform running IP Infusion OcNOS on Edgecore hardware. The new IP backbone uses EVPN-VXLAN to deliver multi-site and multi-tenant services, while interoperating with the operator’s existing Alcatel Lucent, Huawei, MikroTik, and Ubiquiti equipment. Open networking systems integrator Pine Networks guided the migration.

The Challenge

Growing customer demand was outpacing what Prosoluce’s 10G backbone could deliver, and the existing platform faced upgrade limitations. The operator wanted a modern IP backbone based on EVPN-VXLAN to support multi-site and multi-tenant services, without being locked into a single traditional vendor.

Any replacement had to interoperate with the operator’s installed base, which included:

  • Alcatel Lucent
  • Huawei
  • MikroTik
  • Ubiquiti

The Solution

Prosoluce evaluated traditional vendor proposals and refurbished options before selecting disaggregated open networking with IP Infusion. OcNOS runs on 100G Edgecore Networks hardware, and Pine Networks led the design and deployment as the integrator specializing in open, disaggregated, and virtualized solutions. Support from both IP Infusion and Pine Networks was decisive as Prosoluce refined its requirements.

Outcomes

The upgrade addressed several priorities in one project:

  • A 100G backbone built on EVPN-VXLAN, replacing the prior 10G platform
  • Interoperability with the operator’s existing multi-vendor estate
  • Lower cost compared with the traditional and refurbished alternatives evaluated
  • No lock-in to a single traditional vendor

Gael Hermet, Directeur General for Prosoluce, said: “Prosoluce’s upgrade to open networking solved several problems at once. We valued Pine Networks’ recommendation for open networking to avoid single traditional vendor lock-in. IP Infusion software allowed for increased compatibility and performance while lowering costs.”

Why OcNOS

OcNOS gave Prosoluce a feature-rich upgrade path that supports EVPN-VXLAN for multi-site, multi-tenant service delivery, and runs on standards-based Edgecore hardware. Combined with Pine Networks’ integration work, the disaggregated approach delivered the compatibility, performance, and cost profile the operator needed for its next phase of growth.

Madeo’s Open Networking Transition For Data Center

Madeo Consultant, a software provider and data center systems integrator based in France, replaced its Cisco Nexus 3048 and Catalyst 3750 switches with IP Infusion OcNOS running on Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware. The transition supports Madeo’s cloud networking software as a service business and gives the team EVPN VxLAN, public BGP, and Data Center Interconnect on a disaggregated stack.

The Challenge

Madeo Consultant delivers cloud networking software as a service to its client base, and rising demand called for a refresh of the underlying switching estate. The team evaluated several network disaggregation strategies, including SONiC and open networking hardware, alongside continuing with Cisco. Two requirements stood out:

  • Comprehensive BGP support for a public BGP router role with transit partners.
  • EVPN VxLAN features to enable a modern Data Center Interconnect use case.

SONiC did not provide the BGP features Madeo needed, and the team wanted a more mature market option than a pure community build.

The Solution

Madeo selected OcNOS as an alternative to both Cisco and SONiC. The deployment uses OcNOS DC and OcNOS SP packages, with the Service Provider package supplying the standard BGP features critical to the transit-router role. OcNOS runs on Edgecore and UfiSpace white-box hardware, replacing the incumbent Cisco Nexus 3048 and Catalyst 3750 switches.

  • Core network switching and public BGP routing on OcNOS.
  • Data Center Interconnect built on EVPN VxLAN.
  • Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware sourced independently of the NOS vendor.
  • Industry-familiar command line interface for an easy operator transition.

Outcomes

OcNOS gave Madeo the EVPN VxLAN capability and optics flexibility it needed for higher performance, while keeping operational habits intact through a familiar CLI. Simple product licensing from IP Infusion kept the upgrade experience straightforward, and decoupling software from hardware let Madeo shop for a custom-fit platform at an off-the-rack cost.

“We are now delivering software as a service more efficiently, thanks to the increased performance and future-proofing achieved with IP Infusion’s solution.” : François Defrocourt, Solutions Engineer, Madeo Consultant.

Why OcNOS

For Madeo, OcNOS combined a mature feature set with the freedom of open networking. The OcNOS SP and OcNOS DC packages covered both the data center fabric and the public BGP transit role in a single software family, and the choice of Edgecore and UfiSpace hardware removed single-vendor lock-in from the upgrade path.

Citynet Upgrades Backbone Network To IP Infusion

The Challenge

Citynet is the IT brand of Hall AG, the central municipal services provider for the town of Hall in Tirol, Austria. It serves 5,000 residential and business customers, and bandwidth demand from that mixed base kept climbing while the Cisco network underneath it ran short of headroom.

The upgrade environment was the harder problem. Pandemic-era shortages stretched lead times across the market, and the installed platform offered few upgrade options at prices Citynet was willing to pay.

  • Growing bandwidth demand from a mixed residential and business customer base
  • Pandemic market shortages limiting hardware availability
  • High prices and limited upgrade paths from the existing platform

The Solution

STORDIS GmbH developed and integrated the open networking upgrade that took the Cisco backbone out of service: IP Infusion OcNOS running on Edgecore Networks switches. On features the pairing matched every alternative Citynet evaluated. On practicalities it won outright, because the hardware was in stock immediately and the price was market-competitive.

An industry-standard CLI eased the cutover for the operations team, and OcNOS provided the feature depth required to run a provider backbone serving regional and international businesses.

Outcomes

The backbone now runs at 100Gbps across Europe on OcNOS and Edgecore hardware, carrying internet service to residential and business consumers. Two constraints went away with the old platform: Citynet no longer waits on one vendor’s stock to add capacity, and it no longer prices growth against an upgrade path it cannot influence.

  • Upgraded from Cisco to OcNOS on Edgecore hardware
  • 100Gbps backbone serving 5,000 customers
  • Open networking platform positioned for future growth

Why OcNOS

Matthias Feistmantl, Senior Network Operations Engineer and Architect for Citynet, summarized the experience: “IP Infusion’s industry-standard CLI aided the transition immensely. The OcNOS feature set is extensive, and the product roadmap is compelling and timely. Their great after-sales support was appreciated in aiding the upgrade process.”

Uniti’s Strategic Network Evolution with IP Infusion OcNOS

The Challenge

Uniti Fiber needed to evolve its IP services without locking itself further into legacy proprietary hardware. The team wanted a routing stack that could carry production BGP and MPLS workloads, cut the power bill of the access and aggregation layer, and turn procurement and maintenance into something less bespoke.

The Solution

Uniti selected IP Infusion’s OcNOS for the refreshed routing layer. The deployment carries BGP and MPLS for IP services, and running that software on open hardware lets Uniti standardize procurement, deployment, and maintenance practices across the footprint.

  • OcNOS as the network operating system for the upgraded routing layer
  • BGP and MPLS feature parity to carry existing service constructs
  • Open hardware path that simplified sourcing and lifecycle work

Outcomes

  • Power: energy consumption fell to one sixth of what the legacy proprietary platform drew, so the refresh cut a recurring operating cost instead of adding to it
  • Cost of ownership: a marginal reduction in total cost of ownership, landing on network upgrade and maintenance, the two line items an operator repeats every lifecycle
  • Operations: one workflow now covers procurement, deployment, and maintenance, so a hardware refresh stops arriving as a bespoke project for the engineering team
  • Services: routing modernized on BGP and MPLS, with existing service constructs carried through the migration

“Our strategic shift to open networking demonstrates our unwavering commitment to innovation, cost-efficiency, and sustainability. By embracing open technologies and collaborating with industry-leading partners, we have successfully transformed our network infrastructure, enabling us to deliver unparalleled quality of service to our customers while contributing to a greener future,” said Graham Wooden, IP Services Engineering Senior Director, Uniti.

Why OcNOS

OcNOS gave Uniti a production-ready open network operating system with the routing coverage an operator network demands, paired with open hardware economics that put the energy and cost results within reach. IP Infusion’s growing customer base in Provider Edge and Aggregation Router use cases gave Uniti more reference points to weigh while it planned the rollout.

West African Internet service provider Virtual Technologies and Solutions implements OcNOS to extend network capacity.

Virtual Technologies and Solutions (VTS), an Internet service provider in Burkina Faso, selected IP Infusion’s OcNOS to power the first commercial deployment of the Telecom Infra Project’s Cassini solution in Africa. The network interconnects Ouagadougou and Dakola with a 200Gbps fiber link spanning 200km, extending capacity from the West Africa Cable System (WACS), ACE and MainOne submarine cables.

The Challenge

VTS needed to link two major cities in Burkina Faso and extend bandwidth from international submarine systems, while keeping total cost of ownership in check. The team wanted an open, disaggregated approach that would let them add high-capacity fiber links without locking into a single-vendor stack.

The Solution

VTS deployed TIP’s Cassini, a disaggregated coherent switch and open packet transponder built by Edgecore Networks, running IP Infusion’s OcNOS network operating system with optical modules from Lumentum. OcNOS provides the networking stack for white box disaggregated solutions and supports the transition from traditional to open networks.

  • Cassini platform: Edgecore’s open optical packet transponder, developed through TIP’s Open Optical and Packet Transport project group.
  • OcNOS SP: full-featured network OS handling Access and Aggregation roles on the link.
  • Lumentum optics: coherent 100/200 Gbps optical interfaces across the 200km span.

Outcomes

The 200Gbps Ouagadougou to Dakola link is the first of its kind in Burkina Faso, delivering faster and more reliable connectivity for VTS customers. Centralized management and provisioning in OcNOS gave the operations team a path to network automation, making service provisioning and configuration changes faster than before.

“The optical transport solution featuring IP Infusion’s OcNOS and the Edgecore Cassini transponder platform with optical modules from Lumentum helped VTS to easily add high capacity fiber links which improved our operational experience,” said Abdou Dia, CEO of Virtual Technologies and Solutions.

Why OcNOS

OcNOS gave VTS a validated, open networking stack that paired cleanly with the Cassini hardware and let the team scale capacity without traditional vendor lock-in. As CTO Issam Fayad noted, the centralized management and provisioning layer in OcNOS provided the flexibility VTS needed to adopt automation across the network.

Vyve Broadband Partners with IP Infusion and RocNet Supply to upgrade network.

Vyve Broadband, a Multiple-System Operator delivering residential and commercial data, voice, and video service to rural communities, selected IP Infusion OcNOS to upgrade its core network. Vyve replaced an existing NOS installation on Edgecore white box hardware, with New York-based RocNet Supply providing design and testing expertise. The migration is on track to reach 200 OcNOS nodes, replacing Cisco and Juniper gear.

The Challenge

The acquisition of Vyve, Eagle, and Northland Communications left the company operating three disparate networks. Integrating them into a single common infrastructure was critical to support rapid customer growth across high-speed data, video, and voice services. Vyve needed a platform that could bridge the legacy networks, then ultimately replace them, while lowering operating costs and improving network stability.

The Solution

Vyve standardized on OcNOS running on a mix of Edgecore white box hardware, combining voice, video, and data traffic on aggregation routers. RocNet Supply set up a deployment lab with Edgecore hardware running OcNOS to validate the configuration and begin the rollout within three months. According to RocNet CEO Mike Baker, this represented about half the time to revenue typically seen from other vendors.

  • Common OcNOS platform spanning the merged Vyve, Eagle, and Northland networks
  • White box Edgecore hardware in the core, replacing the prior NOS installation
  • RocNet Supply lab validation and standardized deployment plan

Outcomes

Vyve standardized architecture, configuration, procedures, management, documentation, and training on a single platform, which shortened deployment cycles and improved network stability. By the time the rollout reached one-third complete, Vyve recorded a significant drop in support calls to its care centers, which the team attributed to higher network reliability and fewer network-impacting events. The deployment is on track to reach 200 OcNOS nodes, displacing Cisco and Juniper.

  • Quicker deployment cycles on a standardized OcNOS platform
  • Measurable drop in care-center support calls at the one-third mark
  • Path to controller-based segment routing and automation

Why OcNOS

OcNOS gave Vyve the flexibility to convert existing hardware from one NOS provider to OcNOS while gaining the feature sets needed for a service-provider network. As Randy Horn, Vice President of Network Engineering at Vyve Broadband, put it: the transition to a white box core fits the company’s distributed, disaggregated network strategy and provides the extensibility to support its automation plans and ultimate goal of controller-based segment routing.

Scott Data Deploys Network Disaggregation with IP Infusion OcNOS Data Center

The Challenge

Scott Data runs a 20-acre campus in Omaha, Nebraska holding 110,000 square feet of purpose-built, Tier III certified data center space, a 20-MegaWatt central plant, high-density cabinets, and colocation services. It is one of only fourteen multi-tenant organizations in the nation to hold Tier III Certification in both design and facility from the Uptime Institute. The network had to meet the same concurrently maintainable standard as the building, and it had to do that without the procurement and cost drag of a legacy single-vendor stack.

  • Long equipment lead times from closed-system vendors slowed network buildouts.
  • Required budgets for traditional vendor solutions were significantly higher than open alternatives.
  • The roadmap called for a logical evolution from mainframe computing toward future cloud computing.

The Solution

Scott Data picked OcNOS and an open networking strategy to serve the network it has and the growth it expects. One operating system now spans merchant-silicon platforms built by UfiSpace, Edgecore Networks, and Celestica, in place of the closed stacks the campus would otherwise have bought. Technology partner IP ArchiTechs provided essential deployment support, and the architecture matches Scott Data’s wider intent to keep the network open so cost, support, and features all stay negotiable.

Outcomes

  • Buildouts move at project speed. Switches that once took years to arrive now land in weeks, so a new cabinet row or a capacity bump is scheduled against customer demand instead of a vendor backlog.
  • Budget freed for capacity. Closed-system proposals came in at a multiple of the open design, and the difference buys ports and redundancy inside the same spend.
  • Supplier risk spread across three vendors. Because UfiSpace, Edgecore Networks, and Celestica hardware all run the same operating system, one roadmap change or one shortage cannot stall the campus.
  • Ready for the next platform shift. The same network carries Scott Data from mainframe computing toward the cloud computing services on its roadmap, with no second migration to fund.

Why OcNOS

As Ken Moreano, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of Scott Data, put it: “OcNOS and an open networking strategy hits all the right notes in terms of cost, support, and features. Service providers and OEMs have been using IP Infusion for years.” The selection reaffirms Scott Data’s stated core values of being a technical innovator in its market while channeling net revenues toward STEM college scholarships, a defining feature of the company founded by Walter Scott, Jr.
