BGP High Availability using Stateful Switchover (SSO)
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is one of the most critical protocols used in routing Internet traffic. On the Internet, an autonomous system (AS) is a collection of connected Internet Protocol (IP) routing prefixes under the control of one or more network operators that presents a common, clearly defined routing policy to the Internet. A unique autonomous system number (ASN) is allocated to each AS for use in BGP routing. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use BGP to exchange routing information between them which enables the hosts in different Autonomous Systems to communicate to each other.
