IP Infusion Debuts Scalable Control Plane Architecture For Network Equipment At The Communications Design Conference

Communications Design Conference, San Jose, Calif. September 30, 2003 - IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, today introduced an architecture that enables seamless distribution of protocol functions across multiple processor levels in the system, utilizing the Intel® IA and IXP processor building blocks and IP Infusion’s ZebOS® routing software. The result is a highly distributed control plane architecture solution that provides network equipment vendors with the ability to build scalable, highly available, and secure communications equipment.

“The initial phase has been successfully completed and provides ample evidence of the advantages of protocol offload capabilities to the Forwarding Plane, resulting in a solution that enables equipment vendors to deliver higher performance, distributed architectures,” said Nick Keating, President and CEO of IP Infusion. “Additionally it has set a favorable precedence for future distributed and further optimized development by providing key answers for questions pertaining to offloading a routing/signaling protocol, and by allowing both Intel and IP Infusion to identify a solid direction in which to proceed.”

At the Communications Design Conference in Intel booth 416 a live demonstration will showcase Intel's Distributed Control Plane Architecture that can be used to implement “Next Generation Scalable and Robust Network Elements” like IP Routers. The demonstration will showcase a distributed OSPF implementation, running on a router in a network built with simulated and real routers. The prototype, which has been jointly implemented by IP Infusion and the Intel Modular Communications Technology Lab, will be running on a system consisting of a Linux-based (IA) Control Plane and a VxWorks-based (IXP2400) Forwarding Plane.

More About IP Infusion ZebOS Routing Suites
IP Infusion designs, develops, and markets its ZebOS family of advanced IP routing suites, which are based on a unique, modular, multi-process architecture featuring control-plane components that provide route redistribution and conversion, management services, and an OS/processor abstraction layer for routing and switching modules. This high-performance routing software features IPv4/IPv6 versions of OSPF, BGP, RIP, and IS-IS routing protocols; MPLS, BGP-VPN, VPLS, RSVP-TE, DiffServ, and CR-LDP switching and signaling protocols; Mobile IP, routing redundancy, multicast, virtual routing, Layer 2 VPN (draft Martini), TCP/IP dual stack, and Layer 2 switching support. ZebOS software suites can be delivered as portable, platform-independent source code or server solutions.
