QNX, IP INFUSION FORGE ALLIANCE TO GIVE NETWORKING OEMS NEW
LEVEL OF SCALABILITY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
News at a Glance
- ZebOS for QNX to enable next-generation network equipment that
can handle unpredictable increases in bandwidth demand.
- Provides support for both IPv4 and IPv6 versions of OSPF, BGP,
and RIP.
- Leverages MMU protection and dynamic architecture of QNX RTOS
to boost high availability.
May 8, 2001, NETWORK+INTEROP, LAS VEGAS - QNX Software Systems
and IP Infusion, a leading provider of routing software, today announced
an alliance that will enable networking OEMs to achieve unprecedented
scalability and capacity in their products. The two companies have
already begun to collaborate on integrating the ZebOS Advanced Routing
Suite with the QNX® realtime OS.
The resulting solution will enable network elements to dynamically
accommodate unpredictable increases in bandwidth demand. As a result,
service providers can eliminate costly upgrades and lengthen the
life cycle of their network infrastructure.
In addition, ZebOS for QNX is targeted at diverse families of products
ranging from very low-end SOHO devices all the way up to core routers
and switches.
"Thanks to its inherent modularity, ZebOS for QNX will provide
OEMs with a software foundation that can be reused across multiple
elements. This results in shorter time to market and higher return
on investment since code and programming expertise can be leveraged
across organizations," explains Linda Campbell, vice president of
strategic alliances at QNX. "This is a compelling value proposition
as OEMs look for ways to innovate and cut costs all at once."
"IP Infusion and QNX share a common vision: to shorten the development
cycle of network elements by providing modular, reusable building
blocks," adds Steve Mock, vice president of business development
at IP Infusion. "This allows OEMs to quickly develop platforms on
which new network services can be easily deployed and managed."
OEMs will also benefit from the proven reliability of the QNX RTOS's
MMU-protected microkernel architecture where each driver, protocol
stack, and application runs in the safety of its own memory-protected
address space. This architecture enables OEMs to create highly available
systems that can be scaled and upgraded dynamically, without interruptions.
Service providers, for example, can start and stop routing processes
based on fluctuations in demand, without shutting down their systems.
