Teja Technologies and IP Infusion Team to Provide Complete IP Routing Solution for Intel® Network Processors

- Embedded Networking Innovators Enable OEMs to Jumpstart Equipment Designs -

San Jose, Calif., May 3, 2002 – Teja Technologies Inc., a leading supplier of network processor software, and IP Infusion™, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, today announced that they have combined their respective software routing packages to provide networking systems vendors with a fully functional, high-performance router solution supporting the major routing protocols.

This joint solution, created for the Intel family of network processors (NPUs) and the first to integrate production-quality code for both control plane and data plane, will allow network OEMs to quickly bring new products to market with the flexibility to easily customize their products with their unique value-add. Equally important, applications created using this solution will be reusable across multiple generations of Intel network processors, including the Intel® IXP1200 network processor and the recently announced Intel® IXP2400 and IXP2800 network processors.

“The vast array of packet-based networking equipment requires routing functionality. However, OEMs would rather focus their time and resources on developing their unique value-added features rather than spending person-years reinventing routing services,” said Felix McNulty, Teja’s vice president of marketing. “With this announcement, Teja and IP Infusion provide OEMs with an advanced starting point from which they can easily add their custom differentiators.”

“This joint routing solution provided by Teja and IP Infusion provides key routing infrastructure components that enable network equipment developers to quickly build enhanced IP services solutions using the Intel® family of network processors,” said Gary Hemminger, vice president of marketing for IP Infusion. “Communication system designers can now easily add routing solutions to their wireless and wireline product lines using the Teja NP software platform without the expensive integration and testing efforts normally associated with complex product development.”

Teja and IP Infusion created this joint solution by combining the Teja NP IPv4 Forwarding Foundation Application, a complete RFC 1812-compliant IP forwarding application, with IP Infusion’s Advanced Routing Suite (ARS), a complete software implementation of a virtual router that includes the IPv4 OSPF, BGP and RIP protocols. ARS integrates with the control plane via Teja's Network Processing Operating System (NPOS) IPv4 Services API for management of connections, interfaces, route updates, exceptions and statistics. Teja’s forwarding application is unique in that it achieves 2 Gbps wirespeed performance on an Intel IXP1200 network processor using only three and a half of the network processor’s six microengines, leaving plenty of headroom for the OEM’s custom functionality.

IP Infusion's routing protocols are based on a unique, modular, multi-process architecture featuring control-plane components that provide route redistribution and conversion, management services, and an OS/processor abstraction layer for routing and switching modules. MPLS Modules for LDP and the MPLS Forwarder also use the control-plane components for central management and routing integration. IP Infusion’s family of ZebOS™ routing suites can be used in embedded equipment and as a route server on standard server platforms.

The IPv4 Forwarding Foundation Application is one component of the Teja NP software platform for network processors. Teja NP consists of a Graphical Application Development Environment, Network Processing Operating System, and a library of network application building blocks. The result of using Teja’s software is accelerated time-to-market, reusable code, a dramatic reduction in engineering risk and, most importantly, reliable, high-performance products that meet OEM customer needs.

“This announcement highlights the immense potential this burgeoning market segment represents in terms of speeding time-to-market for network OEMs,” stated John G. Metz, principal analyst at Metz International, Ltd. in Harvard Massachusetts. “By combining their complementary solutions, Teja and IP Infusion have set new bars in functionality, ease-of-integration, reusability and extensibility for embedded network applications.”

The two components of the joint routing solution are available today from their respective companies. Interested parties can read more, including detailed application notes, on both websites at www.teja.com and www.ipinfusion.com. Attendees of Networld+Interop, being held in Las Vegas, May 7-9, can view a live demonstration in Intel’s booth # 7183.
