IP Infusion Expands Its ZebOS Advanced Routing
Suite With Multicast, IP Routing Redundancy, And BGP Virtual Routing
Support
San Jose, Calif., June 6, 2002 IP Infusion, a leading
provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services,
announced today the availability of version 4.0 of its ZebOS
Advanced Routing Suite (ARS). IP Infusion has broadened its already
widely used and comprehensive advanced IP routing and switching
offerings to now include multicast, IP routing redundancy, and BGP
virtual routing solutions.
"This 4.0 release adds IP redundancy to our ZebOS Advanced
Routing Suite (ARS) by extending our routing protocols to support
multiple control planes, which is critical for high availability
support in both the wireline and wireless equipment markets,"
said Nick Keating, President and CEO of IP Infusion. "In addition,
our routing solution now offers multicast support through a PIM-SM
module. By broadening our BGP module with a virtual routing extension,
we currently support OSPF and BGP virtual routing, which enables
service and equipment developers to deliver secure routing technology
in a single communication solution. This significantly lowers both
capital and operational expenses for service providers needing to
provision multiple solutions by eliminating the need for multiple
boxes."
About Advanced Routing Suite Version 4.0 Features
IP Routing Redundancy Software Module
The IP Redundancy module provides communication between a primary
and a secondary control plane through extensions to the ZebOS Network
Services Module. The primary and secondary control planes both run
the Advanced Routing Suite. Upon normal operation the primary control
plane version of the ARS services routing updates and requests.
If the primary fails, the secondary control plane quickly discovers
its failure and takes over operation of all routing functions. During
normal operations, a carbon copy of the primary Routing Information
Base (RIB) is maintained in the secondary control plane. This allows
routing to be quickly and seamlessly carried out even in the event
of hardware or software failures. The IP Routing Redundancy software
module also provides a series of APIs that enables any redundant
application to integrate with and to function properly within a
redundant system using the ZebOS ARS.
PIM-SM Routing Module
IP Infusion's Protocol Independent Multicast-Sparse Mode (PIM-SM)
module routes multicast packets to multicast groups, and is designed
to efficiently establish distribution trees across wide area networks
(WANs). PIM-SM is called "protocol independent" because
it can use the route information that any routing protocol enters
into the multicast Routing Information Base (RIB).
BGP Virtual Routing
The BGP Virtual Routing (VR) source code module allows service providers
to provision existing dedicated services to customers without incurring
related overhead cost by consolidating multiple routers into a single
router. Each customer receives a dedicated virtual router as opposed
to a dedicated physical router. As a result, multiple VRs can exist
inside a single physical router. VR helps with equipment footprint
and all its associated costs. Each VR is a separate instance of
the routing protocols and has its own management interface.
About IP Infusion's ZebOS Routing Suites
IP Infusion designs, develops, and markets its ZebOS
family of advanced IP routing suites, which are based on a unique,
modular, multi-process architecture featuring control-plane components
that provide route redistribution and conversion, management services,
and an OS/processor abstraction layer for routing and switching
modules. This high-performance routing software features IPv4 and
IPv6 versions of OSPF, BGP, and RIP routing protocols; MPLS, BGP-VPN,
RSVP-TE, and CR-LDP switching and signaling protocols; and Mobile
IP and virtual routing support. ZebOS software suites can be delivered
as either portable, platform-independent source code, or in server
solutions, which can be used to support proprietary systems and
includes a number of OS dependent modules to quickly build on Linux,
BSD, Solaris, VxWorks, OSE, and other popular operating systems.
Processor support for Intel® Pentium, Motorola® PowerPC,
Sun® Sparc, and MIPS are provided.
