IP INFUSION OPENS NETWORK PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK NORTH CAROLINA

June 12, 2001, San Jose, California - IP Infusion, a leading supplier of portable networking software, today announced that it has established a Network Processing Development Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. This division will focus on integrating IP Infusion's ZebOS Advanced Routing SuiteT (ZebOST) software with the semiconductor industry's leading network processor suppliers. In addition, IP Infusion will actively promote and develop standards for the Network Processing Forum.

"The availability of our ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite is revolutionizing the manner in which network equipment manufacturers deliver routing software on their platforms. Instead of costly development efforts, they now have a source for routing software that lowers the cost and barrier for integrating routing and network technology into access, edge, and core equipment," said Nick Keating, president and CEO of IP Infusion. "Our Network Processing Development Center will continue this effort through the integration and optimization of control and data plane software. The combination of off-the-shelf network processors and integrated network software will significantly reduce time to market for network equipment manufacturers. In addition, we see a great opportunity for the network processor manufacturers to take the lead in assisting in the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 in cooperation with our full suite of IPv6 products."

As an active member of the Network Processing Forum, IP Infusion is working to promote standards that will allow control plane software to be integrated with forwarding engine hardware provided by the network processor manufacturers. A key component of this integration is an API being developed by the Network Processing Forum that will allow control plane software and data plane hardware to be integrated with standard technology and interfaces. Additionally, IP Infusion is developing methodologies for the optimization of the software that runs on the control and data plane. IP Infusion is initially focused on integrating its ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite with network processor hardware.

"Our team brings an incredible array of skills to bear on the issue of control and data plane integration," stated Debbie O'Connell, director of the Network Processor Group. "This team has numerous years of experience in the network processing and software integration market, and we have already made great strides with respect to the optimization of software in a data forwarding environment."

The ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite contains a unique, modular, multi-process architecture built to support IPv4 and IPv6 routing protocols. Protocol modules for OSPF, BGP, and RIP for both IPv4 and IPv6 communicate with the core Network Services Module to provide routing table information and updates. The Network Services Module maintains a central routing information base and performs route conversion, route redistribution, and configuration management for the protocol modules.

Designed to interoperate with network equipment from Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Foundry Networks, and other leading network equipment manufacturers, the ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite's platform-independent, modular, architecture allows all or portions of the suite to be easily integrated into switch and router platforms. SNMP MIB support is provided to enable network management, billing, and provisioning applications. The ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite has been ported to a variety of platforms, including: VxWorks, Linux, Solaris, BSD, OS-9, and other real-time operating systems.
