IP INFUSION TAKES LEADING ROLE IN HELPING TO SHAPE NETWORK PROCESSING
SOFTWARE STANDARDS
July 25, 2001, San Jose, California - IP Infusion, a leading
supplier of portable networking software, announced today that Debbie
O'Connell, Director of the Network Processor Group at IP Infusion,
has accepted the role of Chairman of the Software Working Group
of the Network Processing Forum (NPF). The NPF's goal is to provide
manufacturers a common building block approach to integrating "Best-of-Breed"
network processors and co-processors, switch fabrics, and software
to meet the wide array of networking and telecommunication service
requirements.
"IP Infusion is fully committed to providing resources and leadership
to the NPF, as well as developing and submitting key technology
to the organization for use in developing and promoting software
standards to allow control and data processors to be easily integrated,"
said Debbie O'Connell, Director of the Network Processor Group at
IP Infusion and Chairperson of the Software Working Group of the
Network Processor Forum. "IP Infusion has established its Network
Processing Division in Raleigh, North Carolina, to help develop
software that will assist our customers in delivering quality products
to market without the time and expense normally associated with
integrating control and data plane technology."
The Network Processing Forum has established working groups in
hardware, software, benchmarking, and education to resolve common
technical issues in order to define, promote, and deliver hardware
and software interfaces that permit integration between multiple
applications and network processors. The initial focus of the Software
Working Group is development of necessary framework, namespace and
interface management APIs. These lower-level APIs and their connectivity
will then be validated via development of an IPv4 unicast top-level
command set.

About the Network Processing Forum
The Network Processing Forum (NPF) was organized to facilitate and
accelerate the development of next-generation networking and telecommunications
products. By establishing common specifications, the NPF will enable
equipment providers to significantly reduce their design burden
while having the flexibility to use the best components to fit their
requirements. The organization was formed to build on the efforts
of two former industry groups - the Common Programming Interface
Forum (CPIX) and the Common Switch Interface Consortium (CSIX) -
by delivering the specifications for programmable network elements
that reduce equipment time-to-market while dramatically increasing
time-in-market. Established in February 2001, the NPF currently
has 70 members. For more information, visit the Forum's web site
at http://www.npforum.org.
