IP INFUSION DELIVERS FULLY INTEGRATED IPV4 ROUTING SOLUTIONS
FOR THE IBM POWERNP NETWORK PROCESSOR
Combination of routing software and network processor creates easily
integrated control and data plane routing solutions for core and
edge network equipment
December 19, 2001, San Jose, California - IP Infusion announced
today that its ZebOST Advanced Routing Suite has been ported
to the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 network processor. This integrated solution
allows a control plane processor running the IP Infusion's Advanced
Routing Suite to integrate with the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 network processor
using software components provided in the IBM Advanced Software
Offering. The ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite support of the IBM PowerNP
is available immediately.
This integration allows equipment vendors to easily and quickly
adds routing functionality to their platforms without the costly
testing and development cycles normally associated with routing
software integration development.
"More than ever, companies need routing functionality in their
edge and core network equipment solutions. IBM and IP Infusion have
developed a solution that has made it easier, quicker, and more
reliable to deliver routing functionality using the NP4GS3 network
processor," said Nick Keating, President and CEO of IP Infusion.
"We have focused on delivering full IPv4 routing functionality,
high performance, and fully interoperable solutions that substantially
reduce the time to market for edge and core routing.
"The availability of application specific, rigorously tested software
is an important consideration in NPU selection today. Our work with
IP Infusion represents another step forward in NPU enablement for
OEMs," said Dr. Armando Garcia, vice president, network processing,
IBM Microelectronics.
IP Infusion integrated its ZebOS IPv4 routing suite, including
OSPFv2, BGP-4, and RIP, on the PowerNP NP4GS3 from IBM. These integration
efforts began when IP Infusion supplied the IBM engineering team
with their IPv4 NPF APIs. IBM's engineering team coded a small adapter
layer, which allowed the PowerNP's Forwarding Code to make calls
into ZebOS, which then performed any necessary routing tasks. The
coding efforts for the adapter layer only took a few days to complete.
Initially, this solution uses the Linux operating system. The ZebOS
Advanced Routing Suite is based on the Network Services Module (NSM),
which provides route table management, route conversion and distribution,
as well as an industry standard command line interface. Protocol
modules for OSPFv2, BGP-4, and RIP run on top of the NSM. The NSM
also contains the control-plane interface to the IBM ASO, which
allows the control-plane software provided by IP Infusion to communicate
with the software components for IPv4 routing provided by IBM.
