IP Infusion Rallies To Ready the Industry For IPv6

Kunihiro Ishiguro and Toshiaki Takada Submit Draft Standard to IETF for Traffic Engineering Extensions to OSPFv3

August 31, 2004, San Jose, California - IP Infusion, the leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services platforms, announced today its submission of a key draft standard to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) for Traffic Engineering Extensions to OSPF version 3. IP Infusion’s co-founder and chief technology officer, Kunihiro Ishiguro, and IP Infusion software engineer, Toshiaki Takada, wrote the proposed standard. IP Infusion’s submission of this proposed standard demonstrates its continued commitment to the standardization and implementation of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), the Next Generation Internet Protocol designed by the IETF to replace the current Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4).

The Traffic Engineering Extensions to OSPF version 3 (OSPFv3), draft-ietf-ospf-ospfv3-traffic-02.txt describes extensions to OSPFv3 to support intra-area Traffic Engineering (TE) over the new IPv6 protocol. This draft adds new capabilities to the OSPFv3 routing protocol and can extend OSPFv2 TE to handle IPv6 networks. OSPF is the most widely used routing protocol in the Internet today. By adding Traffic Engineering capabilities to OSPFv3, the protocol can be used in the implementation of IP networks capable of supporting convergence of voice, video, and data over the new IPv6 networks.

New technologies such as new generation mobile phones, peer-to-peer and mesh networking, as well as new IP connection equipment (household appliances, vehicles, gaming consoles…) are going to call for a very significant number of IP addresses per user. Therefore entire ranges of new equipment are being developed to support IPv6 and its innovative capabilities. Special equipment is also being developed to support the transition from IPv4 to IPv6.

Since IPv6 is key for tomorrow's growing demands for these killer applications, it is imperative that the industry standardize its architecture and implementation. At this time not all of these solutions are defined in the standards that provide a common framework and ensure interoperability between multiple vendors. IP Infusion is dedicated to actively supporting the standards bodies in the formulation of state-of-the-art technologies.

IP Infusion’s award-winning routing software delivers a full modular set of protocol solutions for the support of IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, DiffServ/QoS, Multicast, and Virtualization. In addition to basic IPv6 routing protocols (RIPng, OSPFv3, BGP-4+), IP Infusion offers IS-ISv6, PIM-SMv6, together with a number of the transition protocols, including: ISATAP, 6to4, GRE, IPIP, and other tunneling mechanisms.
